It Ain’t Easy Being Meat

Art by Rob Goldstein

A drunken old man leaves a party.

Three young men shove him and
laugh as he staggers and cries.

They glide into a tunnel.

Suddenly, one of the men snaps the
old man’s arms and slips a knife into
his chest.

Three young men vanish in a spray
of red.

The old man falls.

I land by the body and pull out the knife.

The old man turns to me and says: “It ain’t
easy being meat.”
